Dear Tate Woods and Schiesher Families:
Step Up Day is right around the corner! For kindergarten and second
grades there is a bus field trip permission slip that must be
completed and returned to school by Friday, May 29th for your child
to participate in Step Up Day. Thank you in advance for your
cooperation in this matter.
In years past on Step Up Day students had the opportunity to meet
their teacher for the following year. More recently we have found
that with greater student mobility, this process has created some
inequity issues among classrooms. Boy / girl ratio, emotional,
social, and academic factors are among our greatest priorities when
developing classes. After class lists are communicated, for example
through Step Up Day, any modifications needed to rebalance lists
with enrollment changes become impossible. Therefore, we have
revised the way we have organized Step Up Day. This year students
will spend time with the teaching team for the 2009-2010 school
year and will not be introduced to a specific teacher. With this
new model, teachers have organized this experience to focus on the
interesting and exciting curricular activities that students can
look forward to next year.
With student confidentiality issues as the cornerstone of many of
our decisions, we will send your child’s 2009 – 2010 class
assignment in a welcome letter that will be mailed to each family
on August 6, 2009. Please note: we will not post class lists at the
buildings. As we look to providing wonderful learning experiences
for all of our students, we appreciate your understanding in the
changes in Step Up Day.
