A New Year Brings New Learning Opportunties!

by Tim Pociask

January 2008

Dear Parent,

Happy New Year! Let’s start out with a question - What do you believe is the most important year in your child’s academic career? That’s a trick question, because we all know that THIS year is the most important and next year will be the most important and so on.

Your attendance at parent conferences, the time you spend at home discussing the school day and monitoring homework, the reading opportunities you provide, your daily efforts in raising your children, and all of the other things you do, contribute to the success your child has at school.

Each day, work must occur at home and school to emphasize learning, encourage students to read, be responsible for schoolwork and behavior, and
to convey an attitude that the student will succeed.

If we take that approach at home and school, each day of each school year, we can help to ensure academic success for all of our children. Unlike most Chicago sports teams, we can not afford to “wait ‘til next year.”

The time is now, and we all need to face each school day with high, reasonable expectations, encouragement, and a sense of urgency. Because during every school year, each day is the most crucial in the learning process for students.

Sincerely,

Tim Pociask
Principal

CONCERN? QUESTION? LET’S TALK!

Regular, effective, accurate communication between home and school is vital during the course of a school year. It could be that you have a concern about school issues, a particular class, or your child’s progress in school. Students, friends, and neighbors may tell you about what they heard is going on at school, you may read something in the newspaper, or you may hear something and this may raise a question in your mind.

Please don’t wait until conference time or other school activities to contact the teacher or an administrator. Your inquiries are important to us. It is equally important that we deal with things in a timely and factual manner and the most effective way of doing this is immediately and directly.

So, if you have a concern about the class, please call the teacher. Any other questions can be directed to Mr. Pociask or Mr. Kearney at any time. Thank you.

VALENTINES DANCE FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13

A reminder that our annual Valentines Dance is scheduled for Friday, February 13th, from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. In the past, questions have come up about “how” students should attend. This dance is for all of our students and a “date” is certainly not needed. We encourage all of our students to come and enjoy the evening. We also have been asked about what is the proper way to dress for a school dance and the answer is simple – just follow the school dress code guidelines contained in our handbook. At our previous two dances this year, our students have looked great! We know this will continue and we hope to see all of our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders on February 13th. (A reminder that students who do not attend Lisle Junior High School will NOT be admitted.)
